Alesha Siddiqui, an aspiring writer and poet, is a 9th grader. She celebrates Mother’s Day in this touching tribute to all moms.

Our day is Mother’s Day,

This day takes the chocolates from Valentines.

Because a mothers love is sweeter than a vanilla latte.

It takes the bouquets from graduation.

Because flowers bloom better when a baby is born.

It takes the gifts from birthdays.

Because mothers are the givers that carry a child’s weight.

Mother’s Day,

It brings out the true stars who shine bright and whole.

It brings scrambled eggs and endless fruit bowls.

It’s the holiday that reminds us of a family’s role.

To support the mother’s ever lovely soul.

I’ll stay up till midnight,

And watch the clock turn.

I’ll carefully brew tea,

And make sure the eggs don’t burn.

We’ll hug and laugh and maybe play cards.

I hope you look forward to this day that’ll be ours.
