Menaal Salman is a 10th grader at Ilm Academy. Her tribute is for her history teacher, Janet Rozenberg, titled ‘Isn’t Khala Janet the Most Endearing Teacher’. Janet Rozenberg teaches middle and high school history at Ilm Academy.

It is not her kindness that enlightens me; it is her sense of humor, her wisdom with words, and her ability to make learning fun for her students. Khala Janet is not like other teachers who can’t go beyond what is written in their planner. Instead, she has a very relaxed and easygoing teaching style. She focuses more on helping her students understand the topics rather than rushing to complete the syllabus ahead of time.

Though I’ve known her for a very short time, due to her jocund personality, it seems like she has been teaching me for years. If something about her inspires me, it would be her approachable nature. Unlike other teachers, she remains calm and patient, even when things get challenging. Her students always feel comfortable asking questions about the topic without fear of judgment. Not only is she nice to her students, but she is also kind to her fellow colleagues. I have often seen her in the hallways, bringing a smile to the faces of everyone who passes by her. Her hilarious sense of humor is also something that I admire the most. The way she describes the old, deceptive Americans is something that makes me enjoy history. Though history is often considered one of the most boring subjects, her ability to make it interesting with humor is what keeps me engaged.

I remember when it was my first history test. She said that since I hadn’t studied U.S. history before, I wouldn’t be able to score well. However, because of her precise lectures and notes, I ended up scoring an A. Sometimes, she does switch into a sardonic tone, but only when the students are not paying attention or dozing off during the lecture. Khala Janet sometimes gets angry at her students and doesn’t talk to them if they have done something wrong, but she doesn’t scold us. If the students apologize, she returns to her usual self.

Khala Janet is an amazing human being with a bedazzling personality. She has her flaws, but then again, no one is perfect. She is extremely nice to everyone in school, and the fact that she has a humorous personality makes it even better. One time she said, “Isn’t it amazing that I get paid to talk about history with all of you staring at me?”
