Alesha Siddiqui is a high school student and she explores creative expression of ideas, focusing on open-verse and satire.

“Why?”

The single question that throws people off cliffs.

And yet the same question that keeps me hanging by my fingertips.

It hooks the reader to the longest books.

Why keep reading?”

The body to the bed.

Why wake up?”

It hooks the soul to the being.

Why keep living”

The brain to the head.

Why keep thinking?”

The answer to the single word has the capacity to move hearts.

The answer is nothing and everything in my every body part.

It comforts the worry.

Smothering the soul until the intrusive thoughts beg for mercy.

It mends the overthinker’s mind.

Building mental boundaries that allow the brain to confine.

It bandages wounds.

Layers upon layers until the stars reveal the secrets of the moon.

It imbues lives.

Holding a person together and fueling their every strive.

It restores reason.

Being the one answer people are willing to die to receive.

It wraps wrists.

Making teenagers truly notice the marks below their fists.

It heals burns.

Being the answer to a child’s every concern.

It embraces scars.

Answering those who send their wishes to the stars.

It repairs.

Piecing back the trust broken by underestimated dares.

It consoles.

Embracing the heart until it touches the soul.

The answer to why.

The key to the locked door.

The answer to why.

Always with an encore.

  1. Inspiring poem, mashallah! I liked how to delved into the impact of the answers to ‘why’.
